Etsy Interview with Noushy

Etsy Interview with Noushy

First off, tell me a little bit about yourself. Im the creator of Noushy, an Etsy shop full of jewelry. Im a university student, and crafting is my respite from academia. On those long, lonely, caffeine filled last minute essay writing nights, creating replenishes my sanity. I grew up in Vancouver, British Columbia, and moved out to Ontario a few years ago for school. I have two kitties, one lives with my mom in Vancouver and one lives with me. She is a delightful thorn in my side, always batting at my loose pearls and beads and knocking them into dark corners where the vacuum cleaner more often than not finds them. I dont just enjoy making jewellery; I also dabble in oil painting, knitting, crocheting and creative writing. I started adding items to Noushy about a year ago, and Ive had great results and awesome lovely customers.

How and when did you start making jewelry and your other items?

It all started when I was just a young troublemaker of oh, lets say, three or four. Id always be tinkering with my hands, maybe tearing my toys apart to see how they worked, or tying colourful strings into collars for my cat she wasnt a fan. Someone taught me how to knit when I was 11, and that just further encouraged me to create. Its those hours and hours of marveling at all the goodies on Etsy that eventually led me to create Noushy.

What is unique about Etsy and what about the website do you like the most in regards to your shop?

I love that I see if people have viewed my items, its a lovely feeling especially if they favorite an item. I love the layout of Etsy, and I love that I can go into forums and promote my shop, or ask for help, or post pictures of my favorite pieces. Its very much a community unto itself.

What inspires you the most in regards to your creations?

Inspiration for Noushy can come from anything. Magazines, books, twigs and leaves, birds and bees. Most of the time I let my imagination go wild and draw inspiration from doodles I mindlessly draw.

What is your favorite piece youve created and why?

Oh, you are a clever girl with your questions. How can I pick a favorite? I love all my little babies. If I had to pick one, maybe my Emma Emmeline earrings. Theyre just so ME. Theyre quirky and fun and a little chic, totally unconventional. I love the spotted red feathers, and I adore pearls.

What do you want to accomplish with your online shop?

I dont want to get rich. I dont want to become big and branch out or anything fancy like that. Id like this to be my full time job, sure. But I still have a long way to go, and a lot of things to learn before then. I just love the thought of someone in France, or Australia, or Mexico wearing something that I created. I like that I can make a few dollars doing something I love. Isnt that everyones dream? I just want to share my craft with whoever wants a piece of it.

Do you have any new creations in the works? If so, what can shoppers expect to see from you soon?

Im always dreaming up new ways to top my other designs. Inspiration usually comes out of nowhere, Im not one to plan ahead. It might be tomorrow, it might be a month from now. In any case, Ive ordered some new gems and when they arrive Im sure to come up with something awesome.

Where can readers find out about more information regarding your jewelry and other creations and possible special offers including additional websites, blogs, facebook, etc?

Uh oh; heres where I fall a little short. Im not one to facebook, or twitter, or blog much. Maybe I should get a blog started one of these days, when I have more time. But mind you, I love Etsy conversations! Sometimes I get requests to create something with a different sort of metal or different colour, and sometimes people just convo me to ask for more detail about a certain piece. I love that! I encourage that. Convo me, ask me how my cats doing her name is Bebe Von Fancybottom, if anyone should like to know and how my pieces came to be, and why I use certain gems or stones. And lets call this interview done, because I do believe thats a pearl the cats furiously tossing around. Thanks, and check out my shop Noushy, theres a crazy HALF PRICE sale going on :

Published by Rachel B.

Rachel B. is a college student from the Midwest with a passion for political and local issues.
