How do you clean rust from metal jewelry

How do you clean rust from metal jewelry

What is the metal? Sounds like either pot metal, copper or brass. If its brass the green stuff is not good for you. You can clean copper with anything with a light acid base like vinegar, ketchup, lemon juice. you have to leave it on there a while. Some suggest with these items that you use salt as a light abrasive. None of these things would hurt metal. If there is a stone in the metal that is a different story. Soak the rusted material for as long as it takes to turn all the rust or whatever into grey sludge could be a week or more for heavily rusted metal, and then rinse/scrub it off with clean water. The mixture takes away the rust and leaves the metal.I thought it was a joke when I first heard of this method, so I tried it on some old car parts, and was surprised how good it worked. Also molasses wont harm you. Horses eat it, so you could probably get it at a pet or farm supplier.
